Want to Hide Your Litter Box? Create a Stylish Kitty Corner!
Let’s face it, no matter how much we love our cats, the litter box isn’t exactly a design feature we want on display. The good news? You don’t need an expensive litter cabinet or a full renovation to keep things looking tidy. With a few simple supplies and a little creativity, you can create a discreet, functional, and cat-approved kitty corner that blends seamlessly into your home.
This easy DIY project hides the litter box from view while giving your cat a cozy, familiar spot to do their business, and even adds a bonus scratching surface!
What You’ll Need
- A side table
- Twisted jute rope
- A short tension rod
- Two window valances
- Scissors and a little patience
Step 1: Turn the Table Legs into a Scratching Post
Using twisted jute rope, tightly wrap the rope around the legs of your side table. Secure the ends well so the rope doesn’t unravel.
Why this works:
Cats love to scratch, and this step serves two purposes, it protects your furniture from claw damage and gives your cat a built-in scratching post they’ll love to use.
Step 2: Measure and Prepare the Valances
Measure the height and width of your table opening. Trim your window valances to fit those measurements so they hang neatly without dragging on the floor.
Slide the valances onto a short tension rod and position the rod between the table legs, creating a soft curtain around the base of the table.
Pro tip:
Choose a fabric that matches your décor or adds texture to the room, this helps the litter box “disappear” visually.
Step 3: Move the Litter Box into Place
Place your litter box under the table, behind the valances. Show your cat where the litter box has been relocated so they know it’s still their go-to spot.
Most cats adapt quickly, especially since the setup still feels open and accessible.
The Final Result
You now have a stylish, discreet kitty corner where your cat can go about their business in peace, without your guests getting a front-row view.
Do you have multiple cats or a larger litter box? You can easily adapt this idea using a longer table or console. Happy DIY-ing, and happy cats!
